Now, onto today's rumor mill.

As much as everyone has downplayed the possibility of Spurrier coming to Alabama, stranger things have happened. Chris Walsh of the Tuscaloosa News blogs that it might not be the most impossible thing to imagine.

Personally I don't think AL will get him, but he'd be a good fit for them (I'd hate it personally, but he is the greatest college coach there is, even counting Pete Carroll). I think they should be focusing on trying to get Norm Chow before NC State does, but that's just me.

Poison? WalMart; Global Warming(cooling)?? Seems the police are going to question some 5^th-graders in South Carolina over a suspected poisoning of a teacher.

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. -- Officials at a Goose Creek elementary school say police plan to question fifth grade students about a teacher who became ill after drinking deadly chemicals earlier this month.

The teacher at Boulder Bluff Elementary was hospitalized in critical condition November 16 after drinking methanol and ethylene glycol, a clear, colorless liquid used in antifreeze.(link)

The report states that the teacher has no history of depression or suicide attempts. This may be the weirdest 'school violence' story I've seen yet. It's hard to imagine 5^th-graders as the diabolical evil-doers out to stop public education. I could see this maybe from high school kids or even college people, but elementary?? It boggles the mind.

San Diego is going down the Chicago road concerning Wal-Mart. The city council recently passed a resolution banning stores of greater than 90k^{sq ft} selling groceries.

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- The City Council here voted late Tuesday to ban certain giant retail stores, dealing a blow to Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s potential to expand in the nation's eighth-largest city.

The measure, approved on a 5-3 vote, prohibits stores of more than 90,000 square feet that use 10 percent of space to sell groceries and other merchandise that is not subject to sales tax. It takes aim at Wal-Mart Supercenter stores, which average 185,000 square feet and sell groceries.(link)

Remember when Chicago wouldn't let Wal-Mart build in the city limits? (WaPo)? Well now S.D. is going down the same road. The gist of it is, the people voting to block are saying that Wal-Mart drives out local business and pays low wages. While true that local (small) business can hardly compete with the giant, the pay at Wal-Mart is usually higher than the pay at the business that gets driven out. So basically the city council wants to keep lower paying local business in the area :)

Global Warming!! (err cooling??)
Scientists are all aglow about global warming these days, but even most of them aren't as bad as the Gaia scientists.

The earth has a fever that could boost temperatures by 8 degrees Celsius making large parts of the surface uninhabitable and threatening billions of peoples' lives, a controversial climate scientist said on Tuesday.(link)

Seems that its too late to fix it (yay) and we're almost all doomed!!! Of course, these 'scientists' don't always agree with the real world or even with each other, but how do they explain these things?

The arctic deep freeze trapping Calgary is on track to break a 110-year-old weather record today, but the bitter cold is expected to ease in the coming days.

With a forecast low of -31C today, Calgary could break the -27C record set on this day in 1896. (link)

I'd say that what impact we humans have on the Earth is too little to guage. The world has been here for 5.4 billion years or so (and had massive warming/cooling trends to boot) and will outlast us by a long shot. Should we be concerned with clean air and pollution? Sure, but we shouldn't be telling everyone that life is going to end sometime next week and it's all over. Global 'climate change' spokespeople (see Al Bore) do not want to talk about this 'problem' they want your money so they can tell you what you will do about it. They don't care about conflicting data, since their data is right, that makes all other reports wrong. Wake me up when they say something worth while please.

UN rights chief: Cease-fire good first step

The United Nations' top human rights official called the cease-fire agreement reached last week between Israelis and Palestinians "indispensable" to reducing the threat facing civilians on both sides.

However, Louise Arbour told the global body's rights watchdog that the crisis Israelis and Palestinians are facing will not be resolved through short-term solutions.

"Addressing and resolving the human rights in the region cannot be held hostage to either stopgap measures that may be revoked, or to a resolution of the political crisis that may prove still someway off," said Arbour, the UN high commissioner for human rights.

While the cease-fire may indeed be a good thing, it isn't helpful that the UNHRC is already trying to condemn both sides in the public eye, without listing any of the 'human rights' issues it points to. There is no mention of kidnappings, suicide-bombers, missles/rockets fired into civilian populations, etc. There is no mention of the 'human rights' issues that Israel is accused of either, but in the MSM those are understood 'truths' these days. Peace will never be achieved in the Middle East until and unless the UN or at least the 'free' countries of the world recognize that firing rockets into civilian populations purposefully to inflict civilian casualties and suicide bombers detonating themselves in civilian centers is in no way equal to military retaliation where collateral damage occurs.
Collateral damage is always to be abhorred for the senseless tragedy it is, but it is not the same on any level as the wanton destruction that occurs with targetting civilians by terrorists and groups that support them. Until world leaders have the gumption to stand up and decide that terrorism is wrong, both in policy AND in public; then these things will contine to occur. The situation in the ME is a washing-machine cycle. Sign cease-fire, fire rockets at Israel until they respond, cry to UN about Israel violating cease-fire, repudiate cease-fire based on Israel's violation, repeat.
There is never anything new to these deals, only the Israeli leader changes and sometimes the leaders of the terrorists.

Free Speech and Dead Terrorist Stories via The News Right Now

Union Leader has an article about Newt Gingrich and free speech. The title is alarmist and the first two or three paragraphs seem to pan to the alarmist title. Yet, if you keep reading, it seems Newt is for freedom of speech and there is no more mention of him saying that the rules should be changed for terrorism.

MANCHESTER – Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich yesterday said the country will be forced to reexamine freedom of speech to meet the threat of terrorism.
Gingrich, speaking at a Manchester awards banquet, said a "different set of rules" may be needed to reduce terrorists' ability to use the Internet and free speech to recruit and get out their message.

"We need to get ahead of the curve before we actually lose a city, which I think could happen in the next decade," said Gingrich, a Republican who helped engineer the GOP's takeover of Congress in 1994.

The report itself seems rather shoddy and uninforming. It starts with a 'bad' message and becomes good in the middle without going in-depth on the parts that you would think (considering the title) that the aurthor wants you to know.

7,000 Qaeda members killed or captured in two years

US and Iraqi forces have killed or captured at least 7,000 Al-Qaeda fighters in the past two years, with 30 "senior leaders' taken out of action since July.

The news comes hard on the heels of a leaked US Marine report that states US forces cannot defeat the Al-Qaeda-led insurgency in the vast western desert province of Al-Anbar.
"Since October 2004, we have now killed or captured over 7,000 Al-Qaeda terrorists," coalition spokesman Major General William Caldwell told journalists on Tuesday.

"Coalition and Iraqi security forces have made significant progress in dismantling the terrorist network," he said, adding that since July some 30 "senior level" Al-Qaeda have also been killed or captured.

Also, in the past two weeks, a series of raids throughout central and northern Iraq netted 11 leaders of the Al-Qaeda-allied Ansar al-Sunna insurgent group, he said. (link)

It still seems to me that this number should be higher, much higher. But I'd guess it's hard to estimate loss to a side that doesn't wear uniforms. Read the whole article, it talks about the WaPo 'leaked' story and refutes it using Falujah (you remember that spot eh?).

Pelosi-Hastings Meeting Could Signal End of Chairmanship Bid

WASHINGTON — House Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi will meet Tuesday with Florida Rep. Alcee Hastings, and those with knowledge of Pelosi's thinking told FOX News that Hastings will be told he is not going to be the next chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

Though no formal decisions have been announced and Pelosi aides say the situation remains fluid, they suggest that the meeting at Pelosi's Capitol Hill office was requested by Hastings so he could bow out of the race before Pelosi denies him the job.

"He knows he's not going to get it," said one senior House Democratic aide. "The question is why he didn't bow out long ago." (link)

Good news from the ethnically-challenged Pelosi if this is true. I understand that when you become speaker you get to weild the power, but to place a person you voted to impeach in the position to see all the security secrets of the country (someone who can't get a security clearance) over someone you just don't like is beyond the pale in politics.

A wise ruling in the benefit for National Security. One can only hope that this ruling will make the NY Times and other MSM sources think twice before revealing classified information and tipping off terror-funding front groups. Sadly, it will probably only make them more careful about it. Hopefully we will see some heads roll on this one.

Next we have a little government 'cover-up'. Seems when the new coins were being minted, they didn't have room for the big presidential profiles and certain words. Seems the words: "In God We Trust" have been left off some coins.

Cease-fire in Gaza How long will the international community hold Israel from respoding to rocket attacks as the newest cease-fire took hold? Until Israel decides to do something I'd say. There won't be any outcrys or protests in the wider world against the palestinian attacks that directly violate the cease-fire that just started. There won't be any editorials in the NYT or WaPo decrying violence or praising Israels restraint. They will simply remind Israel that there is a cease-fire until Israel decides to fight back. Then the editorials and 'news' reports will come speaking out against Israeli 'aggression'.

This pattern is repeated with every cease-fire or treaty that Israel signs. It is a never-ending cycle that shows that a country should and will defend itself and should have the right even in the international community.

Tennessee Wins! and Outrage at StoptheACLU
Tennessee beat Kentucky 17-12 in what would look like a defensive struggle. It was a struggle alright, neither defense seemed to be able to stop the other offense, yet somehow points weren't scored (going for it on 4^th, turnovers, blocked/missed fg's, etc). It was a good win, but a lousy game for fans. Both schools need to practice the fundamentals alot more before bowl games come along.

A Democrat community leader who would “offer a homily during worship services” and facilitated his congregation’s “opening our doors to all people regardless of sexual orientation” has been given a slap on the hand after pleading guilty to extensive child pornography offenses involving children as young as six.

First of all, I don’t care what political party this sicko belongs to. It is only significant in that his political ties may have played a part in how light of a sentence he got. His actions and the lack of justice from the judge involved is what outrages me.

Tennessee attempts to win its 22^nd in a row against their rivals from the north. Kentucky is 7-4 and going to a bowl this year, Tennessee is 8-3 and still has a chance to get to a New Year's bowl and win 10. After last year's 5-6 record, that's quite a turn around.

Should be a good offensive game. If Tenn.'s defense can step up like last week, this game will be over at half time and I can get some sleep before work. Otherwise, they might put a hundred (both teams) on the board and I'll be tired tonite.

Happy Thanksgiving Today is Thanksgiving, a day to be thankful for what you have and to spend with family if you can.

I'm thankful that I'm able to spend this day with my family (have to work tonite, but meh) and thankful for all the friends that I've had over the years that I can think of today. I'm thankful for the people I've met online and talk to, and the coworkers I enteract everyday.

Mostly I'm thankful for the wife and child in my life. I'm thankful for having a strong-willed, beautiful, intelligent and caring woman to share my life with. I thank God that she was brought into my life and for the days and nights we share together. I'm thankful that my daughter is healthy, smart, respectful and one day to grow up to be a beautiful and talented woman like her mother.

I'm thankful for more things than I can simply write into a blog. And after this post I won't be writing anything else this day. Today will be and is about family, food, football :) (and work later).

Jay, I just received wonderful news that Sen. Sam Brownback is urging his colleagues to allow a vote on the Public Expression of Religion Act (PERA)–a measure that sailed through the House 244-173.

Passage of PERA would eliminate the awarding of attorney’s fees to groups challenging the constitutionality of displays on public property. Groups like the ACLU have made millions of dollars using the threat of monetary awards to intimidate officials into removing Ten Commandment monuments, Nativity scenes, crosses, or the words “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance.

On the surface, Thiago Olson is like any typical teenager.He's on the cross country and track teams at Stoney Creek High School in Rochester Hills. He's a good-looking, clean-cut 17-year-old with a 3.75 grade point average, and he has his eyes fixed on the next big step: college.
But to his friends, Thiago is known as "the mad scientist."(rest)

It says he is the 18th amateur in the world to create fusion and hopes to someday work for the government. I'd say with adding that you created Nuclear Fusion in your parents basement from e-bay items, you'd probably be able to work for whoever you wanted.

Lee High School Bus Flips Off Interstate, 3 Dead

A third student has died, from injuries she received in a bus wreck that happened shortly after 10 o'clock this morning.  The bus was carrying Lee High School students to the Huntsville Center for Technology on Drake Avenue.

The bus flipped off I-565 onto the ground near Church Street in downtown Huntsville.  More than 30 students were on the bus.

Huntsville police and Huntsville Hospital staff confirmed to NewsChannel 19's Amber Stuart that a third student has died. 

Police say the students who died were Christine Collier, 17, Nichole Ford, 18, and Tanesha Hill, 17.

The bus was on its daily route to the Huntsville Center for Technology on Drake Avenue, when it flipped off the Interstate.  More than 30 students were on board.  A number of them were critically hurt.

Police have spoken with the driver of an orange Toyota Celica, which collided with the bus.  Police say the driver was also a Lee High School student.

Huntsville
Police have a team investigating how the wreck happened. They are trying to find the driver of a red car, found on one of the interstate ramps.  They believe the driver of the car is a Lee High School student, but have not released the driver's name, and don't know his or her condition.

Traffic is open again on I-565, with the exception of the ramp from I-565 West leading to Memorial Parkway (north and south).

NewsChannel 19's Shane Hays, one of our photojournalists, flew over the crash site around 11am, and reports traffic was backed up in the westbound lanes, into Huntsville, because of the wreck.

Parents at the scene tell NewsChannel 19 crews their children called them from cell phones as soon as the bus hit the ground, and they rushed to the scene. 

Parents are asked to go to the cafeteria at Huntsville Hospital to find out
more about their children, if they believe they were on the bus.  Many parents have also checked out their children early from Lee High School today.  Read more below.

NewsChannel 19 has learned that 13 of the injured students are being treated at Huntsville Hospital.  Of those, two are at the hospital's main emergency room, and 11 were in the pediatric emergency room,
located at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children.

Huntsville Hospital called in all nursing staff to report to work, to help with the injured students. 

NewsChannel 19's Amber Stuart has been at Huntsville Hospital throughout the day.  She reports that seriously injured students are being treated there, and less-seriously injured students were taken to surrounding hospitals, including Crestwood Medical Center.

Dr. Ann Roy Moore, superintendent of Huntsville City Schools, is at Huntsville Hospital to talk with parents.

Police are blocking off streets near the hospital, to allow ambulances to take injured victims to the emergency room as quickly as possible.

NewsChannel 19's Greg Screws reports from Lee High School that many parents are at
the school, to make sure their children are there, and were not on the bus.  There are several security guards at every entrance of the school.  Many parents are checking their children out of school.  There is also a team of counselors at the school to help students who are grieving.

A district manager from the Alabama Department of Transportation is at the scene.  He will check the
overpass.  He'll then notify the central office with his findings, and will coordinate with the Department of Public Safety.

This school bus did not have seat belts, as many buses do not.

Read the whole article, at first it seems a great way to kill alot of people, but the article states that accident rates are dropping. Not to sure how viable this would be in the U.S. with the mentality of most drivers, but it does seem to be working in places in Europe.

Gunman dies after storming school

A gunman has been found dead after storming a school in Germany, injuring a teacher and several pupils.
According to reports, explosive material was found on the body of the man, who had entered the school in Emsdetten at 0830GMT.
Police have however not yet said how the man, who is reported to have been a former pupil of the school, died.

Seems no one was killed but the gunman (8 injured however) so a definite good ending to the situation(imo).

In ‘88, Pelosi Voted to Impeach Hastings — Will She Support Him Now?
Pelosi, Hoyer, Conyers, Rangel, Frank, Waxman — they all voted to impeach.

On August 3, 1988, the House of Representatives voted on a resolution, co-sponsored by Michigan Democratic Rep. John Conyers, to impeach Alcee Hastings, the federal judge in Florida accused of conspiring to take a bribe. On that day 18 years ago, some of the Democrats who are today preparing to take power in the House were relatively new to the job; others were, even then, veterans who had served in Congress for years. For both, the vote was a rarity; Hastings was just the 10th judge in U.S. history to face impeachment.
One of the newcomers to the House was the future Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who had been in office a little more than a year. She voted to impeach Hastings.

The list of democrats (current and former) that voted to impeach is astounding, most of these same people are now backing Hastings for the chairmanship of the Intel. committee ><

U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel, the incoming chairman of the House of Representatives' tax-writing committee, said he would introduce legislation to reinstate the draft as soon as the new, Democratic-controlled Congress convenes in January.

Asked on CBS' "Face the Nation" if he was still serious about the proposal for a universal draft he raised a couple of years ago, he said, "You bet your life. Underscore serious."

Remember how the Democrats keep saying that the Republicans will re-instate the draft if you elect them... Just another thing to think about when you get ready to vote in the next election.

Iranian MPs back fingerprinting Americans on entry

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's conservative-dominated parliament, in a tit-for-tat measure, passed a bill on Sunday obliging the government to fingerprint U.S. citizens entering the Islamic Republic, state radio reported.

The proposal, backed by 135 votes to 26, also requires a complete security check on every American who enters Iran. The bill now goes to the hardline Guardian Council, a constitutional watchdog body, before becoming law.

Does this bother anyone else? I think they have the right to fingerprint anyone they want to, it is after-all their country. I don't see this hurting the 'bountiful' Iranian American tourist industry at all.

"Not in the least," Kerry, the Democratic presidential nominee in said when asked if the furor over his comment had caused him to reconsider a 2008 race. "The parlor game of who's up, who's down, today or tomorrow, if I listened to that stuff, I would never have won the nomination."

Please let Kerry run again, the humor would help lighten the democratic primary long enough for him to go down quick and hard.

The NBC affiliate dismissed Jamey Singleton on Thursday after the photo appeared on MySpace.com.

But is this really credible? Would criminals or terrorists really go to such lengths? Ross Anderson, professor of
security engineering at the University of Cambridge computer
laboratory, believes they would. "The point is that once you have
extracted the data from the chip you can have a forged passport that
contains not just forged physical stuff," he says. "You also have the
digital bit-stream so the digital signature of the passport checks out.
That makes it possible to travel through borders with it.

"What concerns me is that this demonstrates bad design on the part of the Home Office, and we know that government IT projects have a habit of going terribly wrong. There is a lack of security in what we can see - so what about the 90% of the iceberg in the system that we can't see?

These investigators should be praised for their curiosity, and for
identifying these weaknesses. Hopefully in advance of the bad guys (but
I wouldn't count on it).

Kind of difficult to keep an eye on suspected terrorists (or their helpers) if they can slip the system altogether.

And on November 9th, the USS Iwo Jima, and the USS Boxer also arrived. Is President Bush up to something? Asked Rense.com On October 11, American officials announced that the U.S., Bahrain and other states will hold their first naval exercise in the Gulf to practice interdicting ships carrying weapons of mass destruction and missiles. The exercises, organized under the U.S.-led 66-member Proliferation Security Initiative and the first to be based in the Gulf near Bahrain, across from Iran, came as Washington and the European Union member states are pushing for imposing sanctions including possible interdiction of ships on North Korea, following its announcement of carrying out nuclear test, and on Iran, which the U.S., backed by Israel and the EU, claims is preparing to produce nuclear weapons. Iran considers Washington- sponsored war games in the Persian Gulf, off the Iranian coastline as a provocation aimed at creating a situation of direct confrontation between the U.S. and Iranian naval forces in the Persian Gulf, although a senior U.S. official insisted that the exercise is not aimed specifically at Iran. About the exercises, which experts say reinforces a U.S. strategy aimed at strengthening America’s ties with the Gulf states, which Tehran and Washington are engaged in a fierce competition to win influence over, the official, speaking on condition of anonymity claimed: "It’s an effort to bring a lot of Gulf states together to demonstrate resolve and readiness to act against proliferation." Peggy Noonan has an article at Opinion Journal in which she asks Who'll Claim the Center?

While Peggy did not make any claims about the structure of politics,
I'd like to adresss a common fallacy which underlies her article. In my
opinion, the concept of a political "center" which lies along a
gradient from Left to Right is intellectually vacant, and moreover,
wrong.

The idea that the current state of politics, or the valuation of a
politician's status can be depicted along a line from Left to Right is
stupid. It's as if we've taken a diverse landscape, a multidimensional
space of ideas, and run it through a hydraulic press that smashes it
into a flat piece of scrap metal which we can understand.

I'd like to propose a new way of thinking about political landscape.

Politics is a multidimensional conflict. At the center of this conflict are the people who are most...

Losing the Election Disfunction Syndrome

Well,
the election of 2006 is over, the results are known, and whether we are
satisfied or not with the results, as my friend Buffalo says, “it
is what it is.”

Trying to look objectively at the political landscape is much easier after the election than before it, because we don’t have to wade through the accusations, allegations, false charges, bloviating and all the rest of what makes up an American political campaign. Now that the people have spoken all the crap that went on before is for the most part irrelevant.

of increasingly violent weather -- by a wide margin. Read the story

Nations session that resulted in a strong call to Israel to end its
military operations in the Gaza Strip.

abstentions, in favor of the non-binding resolution in an emergency

Boehner elected House minority leader via HotAir

By a landslide, according to Fox. So much for the Mike Pence groundswell.

Will the GOP make it a business-as-usual two-fer by reinstalling Blunt as whip? Stay tuned!

Seems that not many Republicans understand the nature of their defeat in this past election and are doomed to repeat their mistakes. Pence at least would have offered a new direction to the party and new hope that they would at least begin to listen to the people that have put them where they are. Alas, it's not to be. I'm hoping that someday soon the Conservative party emerges from the ashes of what the Republicans are trying to make of themselves. I still think the Republican party is better than the Democrat party, but both parties are going away from conservative values (not so much in their campaigning which was full of conservative values [pro-life/guns/constitution/speech, national defense, lower taxes, tougher on illegal immigration], but on their policies which do not seem to stack up to the rhetoric they use to garner said votes.

Neither party has shown the capacity or gumption (balls) to get it done when in a position to do so (ie, Pelosi backing Murtha for Majority leader). We'll have to see if the Dems are serious about changing Congress from corruption (see Murtha, Reid, Conyer, et. al) or not; but my best guess would be a resounding NO. In '08 we'll have the same election as we had this year, except the shoes will be on different feet and we'll all try to pick the least corrupt people to vote for.

Stolen Election

Diebold?
Whatever!

One advantage of Democrats winning last week's elections is that we've been
spared all the complaints about "stolen" elections. Well, almost all
of them. In Florida's 13th District, vacated by Rep. Katherine Harris for her
ill-starred Senate run, Republican Vern Buchanan eked out a victory by about
400 votes. Angry Left teen idol Markos "Kos" Moulitsas is crying foul:

Down in Florida, an epic battle is brewing over the electronic Diebold voting
machines that ate 18,000 votes for Democrat Christine Jennings in FL-13 and
cost her the election.

Not only is an expensive recount in the cards, but campaign and DCCC [Democratic
Congressional Campaign Committee] lawyers are flocking down, demanding the
state freeze the machines for inspection.

These are the opening salvos in what will be the battle to end Diebold.

But only 36 people have given via our Blue Majority Act Blue page for the
legal battles ahead.

To put it bluntly, to anyone who has ever complained about Diebold, this
is your chance to put your money where your mouth is. No more talk needed.
No more advocacy needed. This is a real-world, legal frontal assault on those
electronic voting machines.

If we win this battle, you'll be able to kiss Diebold goodbye.

Update: No one will confirm, but word is that the DCCC and the Jennings
campaign are considering suing for a brand new election.

Update II: Machines in FL-13 were made by ES&S. Same difference.

"Same difference"? ES&S is Election Systems & Software Inc.,
a Diebold competitor. This really makes the Puffington Host look stupid.

You notice a pattern here?  If a democrat loses ANY election close, it's stolen.  In the senate, there were races as close as 7k votes and 4k votes, but the democrats won, so no stolen elections.  There were some close house races that the dems won, no steals.  If people are as stupid as Kos thinks, then maybe we need to look at something new, maybe the voting booths should only have democrats on them so we don't have to worry about this type of problem anymore (heh).

StumbleUpon Installed Stumble on my IE 7 on both computers.  It makes 'surfing' the internet acutally surfing, instead of googling or relying on other people to find websites for you.  You tell it your interests, then hit the stumble buttong and viola, you goto a website randomly that matches one of your interests.  You can find alot of websites that you had no idea existed.  (or you can find websites you forgot about).

Al Qaeda seeking nuclear kit for attacks: UK official

technology that would enable it to use a nuclear device to
attack Western targets including Britain, a senior British
official said on Monday.

"We know the aspiration is there. We know attempts to

technology are there," the senior Foreign Office official told
reporters.

The comments at a briefing came days after the head of
Britain's domestic spy agency said Muslim extremists were
plotting at least 30 major terrorist attacks in Britain which
could involve chemical and nuclear devices.

Ill. woman accused in hit-and-run death

PEORIA, Ill. - A jealous ex-wife was charged with murder Monday after
running down her ex-husband with a car outside another woman's
apartment, authorities said. Dennis McGlothlin, 26, died at a hospital

Krystle McGlothlin, 25, was jailed on $2 million bail.

Investigators said she showed up at the apartment early Friday,
yelling obscenities and screaming for her ex-husband to come outside.

Dec. 6, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia: terrorists storm the U.S. consulate, killing 5 consulate employees. 4 terrorists were killed by Saudi security.

60 Minutes' Ed Bradley Dead At 65 According to CBS via Drudge:

(CBS) Veteran 60 Minutes correspondent Ed Bradley died Thursday at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan of complications from leukemia.

I didn't agree with a few (ok a lot) of his views, but I always thought he was one of the better people on 60 minutes. Sad day for his family and friends :(

Where's the Aclu on this? (Freedom) Freedom means many things to many different people. Freedom of expression (speech) is the most common thought of and used freedom we have. But it is not only the right of speech, but the right of silence.

Across the country many colleges and universities are hell-bent on removing the freedom of speech from their students.

The lawsuit, Brooker v. The Governors of Missouri State University (MSU), was filed on Oct. 30 by the Alliance Defend Fund on behalf of Emily Brooker, a student in the university's school of social work. The ADF, a Christian legal group that advocates religious freedom, accuses tax-funded MSU of retaliating against Brooker because she refused to sign a letter to the Missouri Legislature in support of homosexual adoption as part of a class project.

Unfortunately this isn't an isolated incident. This happens at many campuses every year and not many of these make the news. You would think the ACLU would be tooth and nail in this fight, but alas, they don't seem to care about anyone's rights unless they are anti-christian. The ADF (Alliance Defend Fund)seems to be the group that steps up to the plate to defend real liberties, whereas the ACLU defends only those liberties that help radicalism or big government.

Basically in this case, a student was required to sign a letter to the state legistlature that she defended the right of gay men to adopt children and become foster parents. This letter conflicted with the students religious views and she refused. (It was decided that she could write an 'alternate' letter, but then the teacher filed a Level 3 grievance against her). What the student (and ADF) are attempting to accomplish is: 1) Remove the level 3 blight from the record, 2) a public apology from the college and a change in policy and 3) a monetary supplement. This seems standard to any lawsuit filed by anyone now adays. (Fix it, apologize, pay me) but seems to have some legal merit and a reasonable assumption of passing.

People should pay close attention to cases like this (especially if you are in school, going to goto school or have kids that will) since it signals (hopefully) a change in acadamia for more freedom for the students to think independently of the professors political/ethical views.

The BoP chart at the top has 2 *'s indicating races are still in question. There are 14 R held seats (I think, can't find much except that 14 seats are still in doubt, 2 of those could be in Georgia and be D held) and 2 Senate seats still in doubt.

Everyone is reporting 0 independents in the House (I could have sworn that there was 1 that won last night, but I'm changing to 0 just to be like everyone else [heh]).

Hopefully Republicans won't become the new moonbats after this election. We'll see if any of Pelosi and Reids comments pre-election hold up in the Democratic Congress. I expect not alot will get done (not much different than the last two years) but hopefully they will suprise me.

I would like to congratulate all the winners (whether R,D,I, or whatever) on hard fought victories. The Allen-Webb campaign was pretty much the only real bad spot in the national races (sure there was slinging in alot of them, but nothing compared to what those 2 candidates did/said). I would also like to thank EVERY voter who made it a point of voting and excerising their duty to the people of this country. Whether you believe with me or against me, I appreciate your level of interest and dedication to your candidate of choice.

We'll see what the next two years brings us and in a few weeks, we'll have new horses to start preening over for the White House in '08.

Again, congrats to the Dems for their takeover in the House and apparent take-over in the Senate (still technically too close to call, but as you see, I've put the 2 points in the D's).

Virginia and Missouri will do recounts and the like, but don't expect either to flip (just looking at numbers, not news... could be a reason 1 or both stay R)

There is a very easy way to end the quagmire that Iraq has become - reinstitute the draft.

No, wait. Anyone who aspires to become vice president or president should read on and not rush off to find a student deferment or strings to pull to get into the air national guard. The new selective service system would be nothing like the old one.

This time there would be only two categories of potential recruits, regardless of their gender, age, health, student or family status - neoconservatives and others. The first group would be inducted immediately and sent off to boot camp. The second group would be permanently exempt.

Kerry the Klink Alot of fallout over Kerry's recent remarks about education and the military. Of course, instead of apologizing and spinning, kerry simply spun and attacked. Not a good to anyone except the kossaks.

Vietnam and Iraq: Myth vs. Reality
by Col. Oliver North

Washington, D.C. – Much is being said and written these days about how the war in Iraq resembles the war in Vietnam. The theme began during the 2004 presidential campaign with Democrat presidential candidate John Kerry describing Iraq as a “quagmire” and demanding a “date certain” for a U.S. pull-out. Purveyors of the “news” in our so-called mainstream media picked up the beat – though many of them are too young to know anything more about Vietnam than what they learned from a movie. The “Vietnam déjà vu” howl is now in full cry. But it’s a myth.

Having now spent nearly as much time in Iraq as I did on my first “tour” of Vietnam in 1968-69, it’s readily apparent that the parallels between the two wars are practically non-existent – on the battlefield. In the press and politics – it’s a different matter. The barons of bombast have decided that Iraq equals Vietnam. Those who make this argument are ignoring some very inconvenient facts.

Most importantly, the adversaries confronted in both wars are radically dissimilar. In Vietnam, U.S. troops faced nearly a quarter of a million conscripted but well trained, disciplined and equipped North Vietnamese Army (NVA) regulars and upwards of 100,000 highly organized Viet Cong (VC) insurgents on a constant basis from 1966 onward. Both the NVA and the VC “irregulars” were well indoctrinated in communist ideology, received direct aid from the Soviet Union, Communist China and the Warsaw Pact and benefited from logistics and politico-military support networks in neighboring countries. During major campaigns against U.S. and South Vietnamese forces – of which there were many each year – both the NVA and VC responded to centralized command and control directed by authorities in Hanoi. None of that is true of Iraq.

In the land between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, enemy combatants are a combination of disparate Sunni Jihadi-terrorists, disenfranchised Ba'athists, Shia militias aligned with Iran, fanatical foreign Wahhabi Mujahadeen, Muslim Brotherhood-supported radicals and well-armed, hyper-violent criminal gangs, often with tribal connections that are stronger than any ideological, religious or political affiliations. Though many Jihadis receive indoctrination, munitions and refuge from a network of mosques and sectarian Islamic groups, centralized command, control and logistics support is virtually non-existent. Operating in small independent “cells” instead of organized, disciplined military units, the enemy in Mesopotamia has no ability to mount any kind of protracted offensive against U.S. or even lightly-armed Iraqi government forces. Increasingly dependent on improvised explosive devices and suicide-bomb attacks to inflict casualties, the opposition in Iraq is more “anarchy” than “insurgency.”

The second great fable about the war in Iraq is the horrific casualty rate. This is always the most difficult aspect of any war to address for all comparisons seem cynical. For those of us who have held dying soldiers, sailors, airmen or Marines in our arms it is particularly painful. Yet, it is one of the oft-cited reasons for why we were “forced” to get out of Vietnam – and why we are once again being urged by the media to “end the bloodshed” in Iraq. Here’s a reality check.

Over the course of the entire Vietnam War, the “average” rate at which Americans died as a consequence of armed combat was about 15 per day. In 1968-69, when my brother and I served as Rifle Platoon and Infantry Company Commanders – he in the Army and I in the Marines – 39 Americans died every day in the war zone. In Iraq, the “kill rate” for U.S. troops is 2.06 per day.

During the 1968 “Tet Offensive” in Vietnam there were more than 2,100 U.S. casualties per week. In Iraq, the U.S. casualty rate from all causes has never exceeded 490 troops in a month.

None of this is to say, “my war was tougher than your war.” As of this writing 2,802 young Americans have been killed during three and one half years of war in Iraq. That’s roughly the same number killed at Iwo Jima during the first three and one half days of fighting against the Japanese. Every life lost was precious and every loss grievous to those who loved them. Unfortunately, our media intends to use every one of those killed to make their point. It’s a lesson they learned in Vietnam.

On 27 February 1968, after a month of brutal fighting and daily images of U.S. casualties on American television, Walter Cronkite, then the host of the CBS Evening News, proclaimed that the Tet Offensive had proven to him that the Vietnam War was no longer winnable. Four weeks later, Lyndon Johnson told the nation that “I shall not seek, and I will not accept the nomination of my party for another term as your President.” It didn’t matter that Tet had been a decisive victory for the U.S. and South Vietnamese.

Today’s potentates of the press are trying to deliver the same message: that Iraq, like Vietnam, is un-winnable. One television network has gone so far as to broadcast images of U.S. troops being killed by terrorists – making Iraq the first war where Americans get their news from the enemy.

The war in Vietnam wasn’t lost during “Tet ‘68” no matter what Walter Cronkite said. Rather, it was lost in the pages of America’s newspapers, on our televisions, our college campuses – and eventually in the corridors of power in Washington. We need to pray that this war isn’t lost the same way

Something to remember as you watch the news these days when they speak of the bad things going on in Iraq. If you know a serviceman (or woman) ask them their take before you take the word of the MSM.
